Employee Engagement at John keels
Employees have various means to be engaged at the work place. Engaged employees are seen to be empowered and enthusiastic about their work, inspired and motivated by their leaders and in their own way confident that they can achieve excellence. Fun Times
The Group’s performance centric culture has not taken away the fun employees derive from work and the work environment. Employee are encouraged to find their respective balance in “life” and “Work”, Whilst the group at a corporate and business level, encourages and facilitates opportunity to find that right balance.
Having fun at the workplace, Develops a positive staff culture, Improves teamwork, Boosts morale and motivation and helps to create building relationships - employee/employee and management/employee.
An environment where employees are able to enjoy themselves amidst the highly challenged work routine.
Theme parties, Quiz competitions, Inter- department sports tournaments, Fashion shows, Movie nights are just a few small scale engagements that takes place on a quarterly basis at separate business units. Our largest which is a group wide engagement activity is the John Keells Year End Get Together which attracts our employees together with their families usually in excess of 16,000 people to one venue to foster relations amount its employees at all levels among business and functions.
Play Hard
There is a time for play and a time to work hard. We have the balance right!
We at John Keells appreciate and value the learnings, derived through playing sports and we believe sports is an integral part to the wellbeing of our people. As a group we participate in several mercantile sports events where our sports men and women excel in their chosen fields. Cricket, Rugger, Swimming, badminton and athletics are only a few of some of the sports categories represented by the company.
We also have a specific sports professional programme where we encourage professionals to realise their dreams whilst building their careers.
Rewards & Recognition
Whilst we reward significant achievements at all levels through our many rewards and recognition programmes, designed around appreciating and motivating employees. An employee who goes an extra mile by does something out of a his/her objectives or work goals, taking part in a group wide initiative, sports and committees etc, is also given due recognition.
The JKH Rewards and Recognition policy encourages and allows all executive and above level employees to appreciate and reward each other. Many individuals and teams, who give so much of themselves create and fosters an environment that is rewarding and challenging.
Talent Management
We believe that ‘our talent’ is our biggest asset and we strive to manage them through different interventions.
Whilst encouraging and facilitating cross functional exposure both vertically and laterally exposing our talent to multiple career tracks, we also expose them to tools such as Development Centres, Leadership Development Programmes, discussion forums, talent chats and other external programmes in order for them to understand the competencies required to progress to the next level in the career ladder and work towards same. We also provide coaching and mentoring.
The cornerstones of our talent management is rigor in the talent identification process, training and developing our talent differently in order to fast track their careers and being a large and growing business that provides opportunities for developed talent to move across our businesses and to make a difference to the Group’s performance.

Our HR process facilitate us to identify employees’ career aspirations, skills and competencies and the development needs whilst enabling us to objectively measure performance, align reward and recognition and successfully manage ‘Talent’.
